COACHES’ CONDUCT

WWLOA recognizes that it is a coaches’ job to win a game, and that coaches are allowed to be enthusiastic, excited and vocal in coaching their team. At the same time, WWLOA and US Lacrosse reminds coaches that their conduct should comply with the rules and be consistent with the “spirit of the game”.

US Lacrosse has established a philosophy to maintain the “spirit of the game”. This philosophy is stated in the US Lacrosse Women’s Rule Book and states that “coaches…should observe the intent of the rules, making a sincere effort to observe them and not attempting to take advantage of them”. Also, “coaches…should be vigilant when…teaching…so that the safety of all players and the integrity of the game are maintained”.

The US Lacrosse has prepared a Women’s Game Official Manual to assist officials in their pursuit of officiating excellence. This manual provides the following guidance to umpires regarding coaches’ conduct:

WWLOA respectfully requests coaches be aware of and comply fully
with these guidelines.

Coaches and officials should have a common goal of maintaining
the spirit of the game while ensuring safe and legal play.
These goals can be achieved by professional, competent and
respectful behavior by both coaches and officials.
